Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Astronomy, Physics, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain composure while assisting demanding clients
- Analytical mindset with keen attention to detail
- Quick adaptability to new systems
- Proficient in using computers with Windows, MacOS, and Linux operating systems
- Experience with Python or another programming language (preferred but not required)
- Familiarity with large datasets, potentially using machine learning techniques (preferred but not required)
- Experience with radio astronomical data products and operating radio telescopes (preferred but not required)
- Knowledge of CASA data reduction software or similar (welcomed but not required)
Responsibilities
- Assist observatory users with data reduction and quality assessment
- Operate a data reduction pipeline and test ALMA software
- Address queries and follow up on routine data analyst requests via the helpdesk
- Offer one-on-one and group training for visiting scientists in data reduction and analysis
- Maintain familiarity with essential user software for NRAO instruments
- Ensure timely responses to helpdesk inquiries by managing open queries
- Contribute to the creation and editing of CASA Guides and knowledgebase articles
- Participate in scientific testing of software and user support procedures
- Maintain current web page content and documentation for users
- Adhere to Observatory and government safety policies in ones work area
- Perform additional tasks as assigned
