Requirements

Must:
- We require a bachelors degree in information technology, computer science, data analytics, information systems, or a related discipline, or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience. - We are looking for 2-4 years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, business intelligence, database administration, systems integration, or a similar function. - We need hands-on experience with relational database systems, SQL, data modeling, and the design of analytics-ready datasets. - We expect experience creating, maintaining, or enhancing ETL/ELT pipelines, data transformations, integrations, or automated data workflows. - We value experience with data cataloging, metadata management, data documentation, governance, or stewardship processes; experience with data.world is preferred. - We seek exposure to reporting, dashboards, and analytics platforms such as Power BI, QuickSight, Tableau, Salesforce reporting, or comparable tools. - We require experience gathering requirements, defining scope, documenting decisions, and using data to surface business insights. - We expect the ability to use AI-assisted tools responsibly to support development, documentation, analysis, testing, and productivity. - We need strong customer service, stakeholder communication, and expectation-setting abilities. - We value excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage several priorities in a fast-moving environment. - We want strong critical thinking skills, initiative, a willingness to learn new technologies, and a commitment to improving existing processes. - Preferred qualifications include understanding ETL/ELT concepts such as data flow, enrichment, consolidation, change data capture, transformation, orchestration, and monitoring. - Preferred qualifications include knowledge of database concepts such as referential integrity, indexing, keys, schemas, table metadata, query optimization, and data quality. - Preferred qualifications include practical experience with cloud data platforms or services such as AWS, Azure, SQL Server, S3, Glue, DynamoDB, RDS, Redshift, or similar technologies. - Preferred qualifications include familiarity with Microsoft business and data tools such as Fabric, Power BI, Excel PowerPivot, Power Apps, Power Automate, Azure App Service, Microsoft 365 Copilot, or similar tools. - Preferred qualifications include experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Experience Cloud, Nonprofit Success Pack, Marketing Cloud, or related CRM and marketing technologies. - Preferred qualifications include experience with workflow automation and work-management tools such as Zapier, Asana, Power Automate, or similar platforms. - Preferred qualifications include experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, testing, documentation, and deployment practices in an analytics or data engineering setting. - Preferred qualifications include exposure to containerization, infrastructure as code, APIs, or modern application integration patterns. - Preferred qualifications include familiarity with responsible AI practices, including reviewing AI-generated code, protecting sensitive data, documenting assumptions, and validating outputs. - Preferred qualifications include knowledge of nonprofit operations, aging services, benefits access, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations.

Responsibilities

- We partner with internal business teams to clarify key questions, translate needs into technical requirements, and deliver datasets, automations, and reporting solutions. - We design, build, test, document, and support data pipelines, data models, and analytics-ready datasets. - We serve as the technical and operational lead for our data.world data catalog, including configuration, metadata standards, documentation, glossary support, lineage, ownership practices, onboarding, and organization-wide adoption. - We develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows, data transformations, data quality checks, and process automations across our systems. - We use AI-assisted development and productivity tools, including OpenAI Codex, Microsoft Copilot, and embedded AI features, to strengthen engineering, documentation, testing, analysis, and automation while following security and responsible-use expectations. - We design, maintain, and troubleshoot workflow automations using tools such as Zapier and Asana so that data movement, task creation, notifications, and cross-system handoffs are dependable and well documented. - We prototype, validate, and move reporting, automation, and data product solutions into production in collaboration with stakeholders. - We work closely with data science, analytics, enterprise applications, and business teams to improve data access, data literacy, governance, and operational decision-making. - We document technical solutions, data definitions, lineage, processes, automations, and support procedures. - We analyze, understand, and create ETL automations for data sources that support internal users and data scientists. - We perform other duties as assigned.

We are hiring a Data Engineer for our Arlington, VA/National Landing office to help strengthen our data infrastructure, analytics capabilities, governance practices, and business-process automation.
