Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in coding languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements
- Preferred: Masters Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with experience in relevant coding languages, or Bachelors Degree plus 2+ years of technical engineering experience
- Experience with improving service reliability through SLOs/SLIs, alerting strategies, and post-incident root cause analysis practices
- Proficiency in performance profiling and optimization in distributed systems
- Familiarity with security concepts such as authentication, authorization, secrets management, and handling untrusted input securely
- Background in supporting compliance requirements in production services, such as auditing and data protection
- Demonstrated operational rigor in processes like runbooks, safe deployments, and automation
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement features and service APIs from concept through design to deployment and operational readiness
- Enhance service reliability by conducting incident analyses, addressing root causes, and implementing lasting solutions
- Optimize performance and scalability by pinpointing bottlenecks, decreasing latency, increasing throughput, and managing resource and cost efficiency
- Fortify security and compliance by employing secure coding practices, enforcing least-privilege access, safely handling untrusted inputs, and enhancing auditing/logging where applicable
- Support deployment and release workflows, including strategic rollout approaches and validation plans
- Monitor service performance through telemetry, dashboards, and alerts; proactively identify anomalies and regressions
- Engage in on-call rotation, addressing production issues collaboratively to restore service and clearly communicate status updates

At Office Python Service (OfficePy), we manage a large-scale, security-critical backend service that allows Copilot and Microsoft partner teams to execute untrusted code in a secure, isolated runtime environment. We are looking for a Software Engineer to collaborate with internal teams, enhancing our core service capabilities and ensuring reliability, performance, compliance, and security. This role involves monitoring the health of our service, troubleshooting live site issues, and contributing to the deployment and release processes.
