Requirements
Must:
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Anticipated to work on-site at the assigned Microsoft location for the duration of the internship.
- Minimum of two reference letters, along with a cover letter and any related work or research samples.
- Research experience in fields like computer architecture, AI/ML systems, or hardware-software co-design is preferred.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python and C/C++; experience in building prototypes or performance analysis tools is advantageous.
- Familiarity with AI workloads and deep learning frameworks, especially PyTorch.
- Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with researchers from diverse backgrounds.
- Effective communication and presentation abilities to convey complex technical information.
- Creative problem-solving skills to address architectural challenges with innovative solutions.
- Experience with tools like PyTorch, CUDA, or performance-simulation software is a plus.
- Knowledge of principles related to accelerator, memory-system, or interconnect design is beneficial.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced research methodologies and theoretical knowledge in practical settings.
- Collaborate with peers and distinguished researchers to enhance knowledge and career growth.
- Participate in a 12-week mentorship program, working closely with mentors and fellow interns.
- Conduct investigations into emerging AI architectures, analyzing hardware and software interactions in large-scale inference contexts.
- Develop and assess analytical or simulation-based models to identify optimization potential and system bottlenecks.
- Prototype new inference mechanisms and evaluate emerging technologies in memory architecture and interconnect systems.
- Conduct experiments, derive research conclusions, and communicate findings to mentors and other researchers.
- Engage collaboratively with other interns and researchers to drive innovation in AI systems and architectural design.
