Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field
- 8 years of practical experience in Enterprise Data Warehousing
- 5 years of experience in SQL, demonstrating a history of writing and optimizing complex queries
- 3 years of specific experience with Vertica database support, management, and administration
- Proven track record in supporting mission-critical applications in complex enterprise settings
- Experienced in Vertica in cloud environments, preferably AWS
- In-depth understanding of Vertica physical and logical architectures
- Familiar with optimization techniques, including projections and partitioning
- Solid grasp of ETL processes, data structures, metadata, and workflow management
- Proficient in Linux OS, including experience with performance and tracing tools
- Knowledge of resource pool tuning for optimal database performance
- Innovative mindset with a strong dedication to problem-solving and process enhancements
- Team-oriented approach with a focus on collaboration and collective success
- Experienced with Voltage encryption solutions
- Familiarity with AWS infrastructure, including Terraform, Python, EC2, IAM, Autoscaling, and cost management
- Hands-on expertise with New Relic for system monitoring and alerting
Responsibilities
- Provide 24/7 support for Vertica database systems to ensure high availability and swift incident response
- Monitor performance proactively across clustered environments
- Manage and maintain all aspects of Vertica technology, including backup, recovery, and server architecture
- Optimize database performance through tuning, security measures, and encryption techniques
- Address complex challenges in data processing, loading, and replication to enhance performance
- Collaborate with technical teams to offer expert guidance on database best practices
- Mentor colleagues and promote a culture of knowledge sharing
- Design and implement automation for database monitoring and alert processes
- Standardize operational procedures to foster continuous improvement
- Oversee Vertica capacity planning and manage licensing to optimize resource use and ensure compliance
- Ensure data integrity through effective management of utilities and disk processes

We are inviting applications for a Vertica Database Administrator (DBA) role within our Data & BI Platform Engineering team, located in Springfield or Boston. This full-time position plays a crucial role in supporting multiple Vertica EON clustered environments, ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of our data infrastructure. Our diverse team comprises project managers and specialized squads in DBA, BI Platform Engineering, and Cloud Engineering, all dedicated to delivering operational excellence.
