Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in geography, geographic information systems, or a related field
- Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in geographic information system hardware and software operations and maintenance
- Experience with Windows operating system or comparable
- Valid drivers license
- Knowledge of geographic information systems and cartographic principles
- Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL), system programming, and database administration
- Understanding of public administration principles relevant to work unit reporting
- Familiarity with cartography, geodesy, and photogrammetry as they relate to digital databases
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to implement policies and procedures, as well as planning and report writing
- Capacity to build and maintain productive relationships with coworkers, consultants, vendors, town officials, and governmental entities
Responsibilities
- Maintain software and hardware for a computerized digital database
- Ensure effective and efficient operations of the geographic information system
- Develop and implement system upgrades
- Provide support to project engineers and outreach staff
- Create maps and generate data
- Analyze and manage data
- Develop and maintain databases
- Make critical quality control and assurance decisions for the geographic information system
Description
The Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) delivers quality water supply, water pollution control, mapping, and household hazardous waste collection services to eight municipalities and parts of several non-member towns in Connecticut.
