Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Masters degree preferred)
- Over 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, including 5+ years in a leadership or managerial position
- Expertise in cooled infrared sensor mechanical design, manufacturing, and assembly, integrating knowledge of materials, processes, and suppliers
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams in defense or aerospace projects
- Proficient in creating 3D Technical Data Packages in line with MIL-STD-31000 or ASME Y14.41
- Experience in generating engineering drawings and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Background in engineering project management, including cost and schedule oversight
- 5+ years of experience utilizing industry-standard mechanical CAD software (preferably Creo)
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and management for the mechanical engineering team, encompassing recruitment, career advancement, performance evaluations, compensation planning, and employee recognition
- Serve as a mentor and coach to engineering staff, promoting continuous skill enhancement and customer-oriented delivery of advanced IR sensors
- Conduct gap analyses, design training programs, and lead initiatives for knowledge transfer to grow the teams technical expertise
- Manage resources for mechanical design and analysis in support of a range of focal plane sensor programs
- Act as the leading authority and technology guide for all facets of mechanical design, including structural, thermal, materials, and manufacturing aspects
- Drive quality and cost-effectiveness in program execution by adhering to Engineering Practice Manual (EPM) and Design Assurance standards, overseeing Design Assurance plans and rigorous engineering protocols
- Assist in program evolution, Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) formulation, and Basis of Estimate (BOE) development
- Supervise design assurance processes, review technical documentation, and ensure adherence to quality, safety, and reliability norms
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including systems, electrical, software, test, manufacturing) to integrate mechanical designs into sensor systems
- Manage technical risks, perform trade studies, and advocate for cost-effective and manufacturable solutions
- Engage as an individual contributor on significant technical projects while providing overarching functional leadership
