Requirements
Must:
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 2+ years leading engineers in a dynamic startup or fast-paced environment
- Strong expertise in modern backend frameworks (Node, Python, etc.)
- Proficient with APIs and system integrations
- Experience with frontend frameworks (React or similar)
- Proven capability to document work comprehensively
- Comfort with ambiguity and adaptability in building solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Emotionally intelligent, collaborative, and focused on solutions
- Nice to have:
- Experience with mobile applications (React Native / Flutter)
- Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
- Familiarity with multi-environment setups (development, staging, production)
- Experience with SaaS platforms catering to real customers
- Background in scaling early-stage products
- Understanding of facilities, marketplaces, or operations-heavy platforms
Responsibilities
- Lead the comprehensive engineering lifecycle covering backend, frontend, and mobile
- Actively engage in coding while establishing a clear technical vision
- Convert product needs into actionable technical strategies
- Guarantee features are delivered on schedule, tested, and ready for production
- Make practical architectural choices suited for a startup setting
- Develop and uphold:
- API documentation
- Architecture summaries
- Setup and onboarding manuals
- Technical notes for sprint activities
- Ensure meticulous documentation for all significant features and systems
- Utilize tools like Confluence, Notion, or others to keep documentation updated
- Facilitate efficient onboarding for new engineers without causing bottlenecks or relying on tribal knowledge
- Mentor engineers with respect, transparency, and responsibility
- Regularly engage in:
- Standups
- Sprint planning sessions
- Retrospectives
- Cross-functional reviews
- Collaborate closely with teams in Product, Operations, Sales, and Onboarding
- Cultivate a culture that prioritizes psychological safety, open communication, shared responsibility, and zero tolerance for harassment or siloed actions
- Oversee sprint commitments and delivery timelines
- Decompose tasks so that multiple engineers can contribute efficiently
- Identify obstacles promptly and communicate them clearly
- Balance speed and maintainability, avoiding hero mode approaches to engineering
