Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field with 8+ years of relevant software development expertise. Additional experience, training, and/or certifications may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and have an active DoD Secret clearance.
- Significant hands-on experience with Java in enterprise or distributed systems.
- Proven proficiency in C++ development, particularly in performance-critical or system-level applications.
- Experience with extensive, intricate, long-term codebases.
- Capability to analyze unfamiliar code and rapidly establish system-wide comprehension.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical ideas to varied audiences.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior individual contributor, working directly within Java and C++ codebases encompassing both legacy and updated components.
- Examine code to gain insights into system functionality, data flow, and performance attributes.
- Provide guidance on design patterns, refactoring techniques, and implementation best practices.
- Conduct code evaluations focused on quality, maintainability, performance, and architectural consistency.
- Acquire an in-depth knowledge of the system architecture, including services, middleware, databases, and external interfaces.
- Understand the methods in which components are constructed, deployed, configured, and operated in live settings.
- Own and oversee the technical backlog for designated subsystems.
- Transform mission requirements and stakeholder objectives into actionable, technically viable implementation strategies.
- Balance the development of features, resolution of defects, reduction of technical debt, and priorities for modernization.
- Assist in the refactoring and modularization of legacy Java and C++ applications to enhance maintainability and deployment flexibility.
- Participate in containerization and readiness for deployment by identifying necessary code modifications.
- Collaborate intimately with development, DevOps, and testing teams to address technical challenges.
- Serve as a liaison between engineering teams and program leadership, ensuring that technical realities are communicated and understood.
