Requirements
Must:
- U.S. citizenship is mandatory per contract.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 12-15 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 10-13 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in designing, developing, and maintaining intricate applications and leading technical projects. You must have at least 5-7 years of professional experience as both a hands-on developer and a technical leader.
- Extensive experience in architecting, deploying, and maintaining distributed systems and cloud environments, particularly in AWS (commercial, government cloud, secure environments). Proficiency is required with Kubernetes/Microservice-based architecture (e.g., OpenShift, EKS, Docker), managed services, and large-scale processing environments (e.g. Hadoop/Spark/MapReduce).
- Expertise in common object-oriented and scripting languages, primarily Java, Python, and JavaScript (React, Angular). Experience with OpenLayers, Cesium, SQL, Git, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines is also necessary.
- Proven knowledge in geospatial image processing platforms and analytics.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of tackling intricate challenges in a fast-paced setting.
- Proven capability to work effectively within a team environment and contribute to a positive and productivity-driven culture.
- A keen interest in continuous learning and staying updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
- Previous experience in mentoring junior engineers and conducting code reviews to uphold high-quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Architect and Develop Software: You will take responsibility for the architecture, design, and development of robust, scalable, and secure full-stack software applications for the GEOINT mission across various platforms (cloud, on-prem, edge). As a core contributor, your role will include designing, developing, and deploying complex distributed systems and highly interactive user interfaces.
- Lead AI/ML and Data Initiatives: You will lead the design and implementation of large-scale data management platforms, including AI/ML and Generative AI models, ensuring flexible deployment capabilities for geospatial image processing. You will also automate analytical workflows utilizing GenAI orchestration and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques.
- Provide Technical Leadership & Hands-On Mentorship: You will offer technical guidance, task management, and mentorship to engineering teams, promoting a culture of technical excellence and ongoing improvement within an Agile (SAFe) DevSecOps framework. You will uphold high technical standards through active involvement in code and architecture design reviews.
- Collaborate and Communicate: Collaborating with project managers, engineering teams, and NGA customers, you will define requirements and ensure timely project deliverables, adhering to NGA Software Way and CORE methodologies. You will present innovative ideas, product demonstrations, and technical solutions to a diverse audience, including NGA staff, potential customers, and senior IC/DoD leadership.
- System Maintenance and Optimization: Conduct maintenance, troubleshooting, and enhancement of secure cloud environments and critical GEOINT software projects. Advocate for the adoption of modern industry standards, including GitOps (Argo CD/Fleet) for build and deployment processes and CI/CD pipelines.

We have primary positions available in Gaithersburg, MD, where all candidates will need to begin their tenure before transitioning to other Leidos locations.
