Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in engineering, Optical Science, Physics, or a related field with at least 12 years of relevant experience.
- Graduate degree and a minimum of 10 years of related experience or, in lieu of a degree, at least 16 years of relevant experience.
- Active Secret Security Clearance is mandatory.
- Over 9 years of experience in developing airborne or space-based optical payloads.
- Proven experience in leading technology-driven research and development projects.
- Previous experience in managing technical execution teams.
- Familiarity with program performance oversight (cost, schedule, technical).
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Masters degree or higher in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a similar field.
- Active Top Secret / SCI security clearance.
- Experience in functional management of teams exceeding 50 members across various disciplines.
- Knowledge of ground systems in the Space Systems domain.
- Technical expertise in space-based optical payloads and optical architectures.
- Understanding of advanced optical payload materials.
- Experience with opto-mechanical subsystems and payload electronics.
- Proficient in optical sensor technologies and manufacturing approaches.
- Successful track record in executing multi-site engineering projects.
- Strong coaching and employee development abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with cross-functional leadership.
- Project management skills with the capability to coordinate multiple projects effectively.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison for the Tactical Imaging portfolio, working closely with the Program Director.
- Ensure oversight of program performance including cost, schedule, and technical aspects across the portfolio.
- Lead and establish Independent Review Teams for stage gate approvals while providing technical oversight and consultation.
- Resolve technical issues by identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Serve as the engineering point of contact for program achievements, issues, highlights, and weekly status updates.
- Ensure readiness and support for design reviews as required.
- Facilitate technical discussions with customers and suppliers to support program goals.
- Assist in new business initiatives through architecture development, technical baseline reviews, and proposal cost assessments.
- Drive initiatives to prevent unique product implementation during the proposal and concept phases.
- Identify and align IR&D efforts with technology roadmaps to establish competitive advantages.
- Recognize opportunities for engineering improvements related to personnel, processes, and tools.
- Advocate for engineering initiatives and ensure their adoption within the organization.
- Promote a culture of data-driven decision-making by utilizing existing data and developing tools for actionable insights.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts within the Engineering sector.
- Document and define the engineering staffing requirements for upcoming projects.
