Requirements

Must:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an Enterprise Cisco LAN, WAN, or Wireless environment, supporting at least 2,000 users, or at least 4 years in a Network Operations Center (NOC) setting. - Current CCNP Routing and Switching certification or higher. - Experience with Microsoft Windows Server is an advantage. - Knowledge of Red Hat Linux is beneficial. - Familiarity with Network Tools such as What's Up Gold, CACTI, Cisco Prime, APC InfraStruxure, Bluecat IP management, Splunk, Nedi, Nagios, and ServiceNow is a plus. - Cisco security certification is advantageous. - Proficient in administering current CISCO Infrastructure components and associated network devices. - Ability to create access lists on routers for bandwidth utilization and security management. - Experience with switch and router IOS (and/or Cat OS) upgrades, deployment of new routers and switches, and monitoring the network using software/hardware tools. - Background in dealing with F5 Big IP and Cisco wireless networks. - Familiarity with routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP, including system administration for configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting. - Strong understanding of TCP/IP and associated networking protocols like SNMP, SMTP, POP, IMAP, HTTP, and HTTPS. - Knowledge of infrastructure configuration to optimize security across various components such as Firewalls, DMZ, VPN, etc. - Ability to modify network management software as per direction from management. - Capability to generate and manage problem-tracking tickets. - Strong team collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently. - Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with customers effectively. - Availability for on-call support during critical situations.

Responsibilities

- Collaborate with our team to deliver daily administrative and engineering support at the Smithsonian Institution, focusing on analyzing, designing, implementing, and managing the Cisco Network Infrastructure and relevant network components. - Conduct daily integrity checks of the network infrastructure and prepare reports for management detailing a) infrastructure status, b) identified issues and resolutions, and c) proactive suggestions for improved support. - Oversee network performance management and end-to-end service quality, including analyzing bandwidth reports and coordinating with NOC tools to enhance performance. Proficiency in Service Now ticketing tools and incident/change/problem/request management practices is required. - Monitor and address hardware, software, and network issues, as well as manage software and security patching. Utilize diagnostic tools to identify and resolve complex network performance problems. - Perform troubleshooting on network systems and recommend improvements. Provide technical support during project rollouts, including VLAN implementations, network migrations, and addressing vulnerabilities. - Upgrade and implement Cisco Switches and Routers. Collaborate with our dedicated team of network engineers, security analysts, web developers, and infrastructure architects to innovate solutions. - Maintain Network Tools Management servers on Windows and/or RHEL Linux operating systems. Develop network management diagrams for all CISCO Infrastructure components and related network devices, along with logbooks for problem and change management documentation and status checklists. - Create and uphold a Master Infrastructure Components List for the Smithsonian Institution, detailing each network infrastructure component's location and configuration.

Description


The work schedule includes shifts from Tuesday to Saturday, with available hours for one position from 11 PM to 7 AM and another from 3 PM to 11 PM. We value commitment to providing high-quality network support and seek individuals who are ready to take on the challenge. This is a full-time role with a competitive salary, starting at $90,000 per year. Candidates must be able to commute or relocate to Ashburn, VA, before beginning work.
