Requirements
Must:
- Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or lead mechanic role within a hotel or related sector, or alternatively, a technical certification and at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- A stationary engineers license if mandated by local regulations.
- Proficiency in HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance is essential.
- High school diploma or equivalent is necessary.
- Flexibility for extended hours as needed.
- Ability to exert significant physical effort, including lifting and moving heavy objects occasionally.
- Consistently maintain a warm and welcoming attitude.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with all staff and guests.
- Competence in active listening and resolving concerns raised by employees and guests.
- Capacity to prioritize tasks and multitask to adhere to deadlines.
- Approach all guest and employee interactions with attentiveness and a service-oriented attitude.
- Commitment to participating in required hotel meetings and training sessions.
- Availability for Manager on Duty responsibilities as required.
- Adherence to Highgates attendance and grooming standards, including wearing nametags.
- Compliance with operational standards and regulations to promote safe practices.
- Diligence in identifying and addressing productivity challenges and facilitating resolutions.
- Proficiency in problem resolution, including preventing and analyzing issues as they arise.
- Skill in processing and assessing intricate information and data to achieve objectives.
- Maintains confidentiality of pertinent information.
- Willingness to perform additional tasks as assigned by management.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the engineering department, stepping in for the Director as needed.
- Assist in designing and executing strategies to uphold the property, equipment, grounds, and assets in good condition.
- Ensure adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations within the hotel.
- Manage and mentor all Engineering staff in service excellence, empowering practices, established procedures, and loss prevention measures.
- Develop and publish work schedules for the engineering team.
- Formulate and maintain the annual budget for the department.
- Contribute to financial forecasting and take part in monthly profit and loss analysis meetings.
- Establish and manage a preventative maintenance program for all hotel machinery and equipment.
- Ensure emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified according to our standards.
- Participate actively in energy conservation initiatives.
- Review feedback from guests and meeting planners to identify and address issues promptly.
- Guarantee compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Administer all vendor contracts managed by the engineering department.
- Ensure timely and courteous responses to room maintenance requests.
- Investigate all alarms quickly to assess their cause and urgency, communicating findings to the front desk while taking necessary immediate actions.
- Provide assistance on special projects and renovations as needed.
- Engage in and support all Highgate Hotel programs.
- Lead or participate in the Highgate Hotel Safety Committee.
