Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field
- Over 12 years of experience in utility IT/OT systems architecture
- Practical experience with EMS platforms, ideally AspenTech EMS or other leading vendors
- Familiarity with control center technologies, SCADA systems, and real-time grid operations
- Experience in executing large-scale EMS/SCADA implementations or migrations
- Comprehensive understanding of utility integration standards (ICCP, IEC 61850, CIM, DNP3)
- Certifications such as TOGAF, PMP, or cloud architecture qualifications (preferred)
- Background working with Transmission System Operators (TSO) or Independent System Operators (ISO) (preferred)
- Previous involvement in EMS vendor migration initiatives (preferred)
- Knowledge of grid analytics, contingency analysis, and state estimation processes (preferred)
- Awareness of cloud-enabled operational technology architectures and modern data platforms (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Define the target architecture for the new EMS platform utilizing AspenTech EMS capabilities
- Lead the technical migration strategy from Hitachi EMS, which includes system coexistence, phased transitions, and data migration strategies
- Design high availability, disaster recovery, and redundancy systems in line with utility operational needs
- Establish integration architecture between the EMS and adjacent systems including SCADA, ICCP/TASE.2 control center interfaces, market systems, outage management systems (OMS), distribution management systems (DMS), data historians, and analytics platforms
- Specify architecture for real-time data ingestion and telemetry processing
- Create data flow designs between substations, control centers, and enterprise systems
- Ensure adherence to industry integration protocols
- Guide the modernization of control center infrastructure, incorporating virtualization, hybrid cloud aspects, and containerized services where applicable
- Collaborate with vendor architects from AspenTech and Hitachi throughout the transition phases

We are looking for an adept Solution Architect to spearhead the architecture and technical design for a significant Energy Management System (EMS) replacement initiative in Boston, MA. This position entails migrating from the Hitachi Energy EMS platform to AspenTech EMS solutions, focusing on establishing a state-of-the-art, scalable, and resilient transmission grid operations framework. Our goal is to ensure the successful delivery of a reliable EMS ecosystem through close collaboration with grid operations stakeholders, IT teams, vendors, and implementation partners.
