Requirements
Must:
- 5+ years of practical experience in a laboratory setting (preferably in EMC; general automotive electrical testing accepted).
- Proficient in using EMC testing equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators, and Power Meters. Familiar with vehicle EMC testing methodologies (Radiated Emissions, Onboard Emissions, Radiated Immunity).
- Experienced with CANalyzer or similar applications for interfacing with vehicle ECUs.
- Capable of writing and editing automation scripts (Bash, Python, or equivalent).
- Understanding of basic electric vehicle architecture; comfortable with vehicle handling including mechanical disassembly, wiring modifications, fuse replacements, and low/high voltage system charging and revitalization.
- Knowledgeable about automotive EMC standards, including ISO, SAE, and UNECE-R10.
Responsibilities
- Execute the hands-on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing at the vehicle level, including test planning, physical setup, technical bring-up, and systematic evaluation in both internal and external lab settings.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the accurate configuration of vehicles, operational test infrastructure, and reliable data acquisition to validate performance against internal specifications and global standards.
- Communicate with vehicle program teams to grasp timelines and deliverables, develop test plans, and manage schedules/logistics.
- Physically prepare prototype vehicles for EMC evaluations by installing necessary equipment (such as fiber optic converters and current probes).
- Ensure all vehicle systems are appropriately configured for testing (HV battery engaged, communication buses activated).
- Work alongside software teams to update firmware versions and enable test modes for lab sessions.
- Carry out test procedures for Radiated/Conducted Emissions and Immunity as outlined in the test plan.
- Create and utilize automation scripts (Bash, Python, etc.) to command vehicle operations and observe bus traffic (CAN/LIN/Ethernet).
- Keep detailed logs of configurations, software versions, and hardware changes for each test execution.
- Conduct tests both in-house and at external laboratories to validate vehicle-level performance.
- Collaborate with external lab personnel to prepare vehicles for dynamometer or turntable testing.
- Manage scheduling and logistics for vehicle and equipment transport to testing locations.
- Troubleshoot vehicles that do not pass EMC tests; perform module swaps or experiments to diagnose failure causes.
- Organize raw test data; provide initial analysis to uncover trends or discrepancies.
- Assist design teams in verifying hardware adjustments (such as ferrites and grounding enhancements) through expedited testing.
- Partner with engineers to investigate EMC test failures via in-depth experiments at the module level.
- Maintain in-house testing capabilities, including commissioning and calibrating new instruments.
- Assist with additional team duties as required (such as EMC debugging, RF performance testing, and low voltage assessments).
- Utilize knowledge of vehicle EMC simulation and modeling tools (ANSYS, CST, or similar).
