Requirements
Must:
- 4+ years of experience in Specialty Software Engineering or equivalent through work, consulting, training, military experience, or education
- 2+ years of experience in SmallTalk development
- Practical experience in deploying SmallTalk applications to non-production environments
- Strong grasp of object-oriented programming concepts and software design principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities, and attention to detail
- Quick learner with the ability to manage multiple tasks
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance applications utilizing SmallTalk
- Package and deploy SmallTalk applications in non-production settings
- Analyze and resolve moderately complex engineering challenges involving multiple variables
- Participate in agile ceremonies and deliver work items within two-week sprints
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to aid modernization efforts transitioning to Java-based backend services
- Review legacy architecture and contribute to long-term modernization strategies
- Utilize a solid understanding of object-oriented programming techniques and design patterns
- Serve as a senior engineering member providing technical guidance as needed
- Effectively communicate with team members, product owners, and partner groups
Description
We are a dynamic company seeking a highly skilled Specialty Software Engineer with extensive experience in SmallTalk to support and modernize our legacy credit card servicing applications used across call centers for both consumer and small-business accounts. This position is a 12-month contingent assignment with a hybrid work model, requiring three days in the office, and offers an opportunity to collaborate within an agile scrum team. Our work environment encourages innovation as we transition our platform from SmallTalk to Java by 2027-2028.
