Requirements
Must:
- 10+ years of experience in large-scale data architecture
- In-depth knowledge of Google Spanner internals, including TrueTime, distributed transactions, and synchronous replication
- Proven experience designing petabyte-scale, multi-regional OLTP systems
- Strong comprehension of distributed consistency models and failure modes in globally distributed databases
- Previous experience with Oracle and distributed database migration is highly desirable
Responsibilities
- Own and develop the target-state data architecture on Google Spanner, meeting the requirements of over 1000 applications
- Establish the Logical Canonical Data Model (LCDM) separate from physical storage considerations
- Design Spanner-native physical schemas, including primary key strategies and row key distribution to avoid hotspots
- Decide on the necessity for denormalization, projections, or materialized views
- Define transaction boundaries according to Spanner constraints, considering single-partition vs multi-partition transactions
- Classify workloads based on strong consistency versus bounded staleness tolerance
- Establish idempotency and retry-safe patterns
- Collaborate with QA and platform teams to validate CRUD contracts, query semantics, and transaction invariants
- Review and approve schema compatibility scorecards
- Engage in workload replay analysis and diagnose hot key risks, transaction conflicts, and index amplification
- Determine the sizing of Spanner instances and estimate cost envelopes
- Serve as the final authority for Spanner data design decisions and mentor domain architects and engineers
- Provide architectural rationale at the executive level
