Requirements
Must:
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience with MS Purview at an enterprise level
- Proven experience supporting enterprise data platforms or governance tools
- In-depth knowledge of metadata management, data classification, and lineage concepts
- Familiarity with Azure data services and enterprise data ecosystems
- Experience in managing access controls and identities with Microsoft Entra ID
- Understanding of regulated data environments and compliance protocols
- Strong troubleshooting and operational support skills
- Experience with Purview integrations with tools like Synapse, Fabric, Databricks, Snowflake, or SQL Server
- Background in financial services or other regulated sectors is a plus
- Proficiency in PowerShell, REST APIs, or basic automation for operational tasks
- Previous involvement in enterprise data governance or stewardship programs
Responsibilities
- Administer and manage Microsoft Purview Data Map and Data Catalog environments
- Monitor platform health, including scan execution, metadata ingestion, and lineage availability
- Troubleshoot and fix catalog, scan, and connectivity issues
- Conduct routine maintenance, configuration updates, and service optimizations
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and Microsoft support for incident resolution
- Register, configure, and oversee data sources across Azure, M365, on-prem, and authorized third-party platforms
- Set up and schedule metadata scans for supported sources
- Manage authentication for scans using managed identities, service principals, and Key Vault secrets
- Monitor and optimize scan performance and coverage, taking corrective actions as necessary
- Uphold enterprise metadata standards within the Purview Catalog
- Manage business metadata, classifications, glossary terms, and custom attributes
- Ensure the accuracy and consistency of metadata across data assets
- Support curation activities such as asset certification and publishing
- Address duplicate, incomplete, or outdated catalog entries
- Facilitate and validate data lineage ingestion from supported data platforms
- Help data consumers and stewards with lineage-based impact analysis
- Report lineage gaps or tool limitations that necessitate architectural or engineering adjustments
- Configure and manage Purview role-based access control (RBAC) within collections
- Maintain access for administrators, data curators, and data stewards
- Enforce domain-specific access controls and separation of duties
- Integrate Purview access with Microsoft Entra ID
- Support sensitivity labels and classification alignment with Microsoft Information Protection
- Assist in the automated discovery of sensitive data (PII, PCI, PHI)
- Aid risk, audit, and compliance teams with catalog evidence and reporting
- Validate scan coverage for regulated data domains and support regulatory audits (SOX, GLBA, NYDFS, GDPR, etc.)
- Provide operational support to data producers, consumers, and data stewards
- Address access requests, catalog issues, and inquiries regarding usage
- Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures
- Support the onboarding of new data domains following established governance patterns
- Assist with training and adoption initiatives led by governance or architecture teams
