Requirements
Must:
- Associates degree in a technical field preferred, specifically in fire protection; or one year of related experience; or a suitable combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in reading and comprehending written instructions, such as safety notices, test procedures, and maintenance guidelines. Capability to compose routine reports and correspondence.
- Proven understanding and application of basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Competency in using Microsoft Office applications. Typing skills preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to define issues, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Skill in interpreting diverse technical instructions in both mathematical and diagrammatic forms and navigating both abstract and concrete variables. Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment, and to learn, adapt, and change as necessary.
- The physical requirements outlined must be met to successfully execute the essential functions of this position.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and analyze test plans, procedures, and drawings.
- Conduct testing on fire suppression products following the specified procedures, including the assembly of test items, procuring test equipment, setting up tests, executing tests, collecting data, dismantling test systems, and performing other related tasks.
- Utilize data acquisition equipment for data collection.
- Gather and streamline operational and testing data and information.
- Collaborate with fellow technicians and other personnel to fulfill program objectives.
- Mentor Entry Test Engineering Technicians (Level I) and assist Lead Test Engineering Technicians (Level III) with extensive projects.
- Carry out fire tests and demonstrations using fire protection equipment and appropriate PPE, providing necessary backup during fire testing.
- Operate forklifts as needed.
- Execute various housekeeping duties.
- Identify and assist in addressing any safety hazards in the workplace.
- Maintain a commendable safety record.
- Complete all job-related tasks in accordance with established procedures.
- Keep a detailed laboratory notebook documenting test data and related information.
- Write test reports summarizing and communicating the outcomes of testing programs.
