Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline; Masters degree is preferred
- Over 10 years of experience in control systems, modeling, or algorithm development
- Proficient in Model Predictive Control (MPC), constrained optimization, and state-space control techniques
- Strong understanding of system identification and dynamic modeling concepts
- Skilled in MATLAB/Simulink and Python (including NumPy, SciPy, etc.)
- Familiarity with thermal systems, HVAC, or data center cooling environments
- Capability to work autonomously with substantial independence
- Excellent communication skills and ability to represent engineering functions across departments
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of dynamic thermal models and digital twins for data center cooling systems
- Design and implement Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithms with specified constraints, disturbance models, and safety parameters
- Conduct system identification and state-space modeling tasks
- Develop algorithms for state estimation and observers
- Utilize classical control techniques, including PID, anti-windup, feed-forward, and bumpless transfer
- Optimize control strategies for both air-side and water-side cooling infrastructures
- Collaborate with embedded and IoT teams for algorithm deployment on edge platforms
- Employ MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow/Simscape and Python scientific tools for modeling and simulation
- Oversee algorithm validation through simulation, laboratory testing, and field trials
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff
- Contribute to long-term planning concerning algorithm capabilities and product development
