Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Over 14 years of experience with multiple launched thermal products or systems, recognized across the division or industry
- Experience in the chiller or large industrial HVAC industries
- Proven system architect for data center thermal solutions
- Established expert across thermal, controls, electrical, and mechanical domains
- Proficient in multiple technical areas (thermal, controls, electrical, mechanical)
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365/Excel, including basic macros and VBA for data analysis and reporting
- CAD expertise (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent)
- Competence in engineering calculations and documentation (MathCAD, EES, or similar)
- Ability to conduct heat transfer analysis (conduction, convection, two-phase)
- Strong knowledge in fluid mechanics and hydraulic system design
- Capacity for thermal system component sizing and selection
- Experience with prototype fabrication and hands-on testing
- Skilled in executing cross-functional projects
Responsibilities
- Drive long-term strategic planning for business unit thermal products and act as the system architect and global resource for thermal design
- Establish integration standards across various product lines to ensure modular thermal stack interoperability
- Define and manage specifications for product families; set business unit thermal standards and design guidelines
- Advocate for thermal technology initiatives throughout Data Center Solutions and influence the business unit positively
- Lead and supervise the technical team in thermal system architecture endeavors
- Serve as a strategic communicator and representative for company-wide thermal initiatives; mentor Principal and Staff Engineers globally
Description
We are Johnson Controls, seeking a Senior Staff Data Center Thermal Systems Engineer to join our Advanced Technology & Innovation group at our New Freedom, PA facility. In this role, you will be a key technical and business leader, influencing our business units direction while championing thermal technology initiatives. You will have the opportunity to work closely with a dedicated team, contributing your expertise to shape our thermal products and ensure exceptional integration standards. This position requires onsite presence a minimum of three days per week.
