Requirements

Must:
- PhD or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. - Proven experience in data center cooling, specifically within GPU and AI hardware contexts. - Strong understanding of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics. - Proficiency in CFD software such as ANSYS, Fluent, Modelica, Icepak, and Cadence 6Sigma, along with performance validation instrumentation. - Demonstrated capability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and achieve results with minimal oversight. - Established history of innovation, including patents or technical publications in thermal management.

Responsibilities

- Design, analyze, and implement liquid cooling systems, including single-phase, two-phase, immersion, and hybrid solutions for high-efficiency data centers. - Conduct thermal modeling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations, and performance optimization for both CPU and GPU workloads. - Commission and validate cold delivery units (CDUs), cold plates, immersion tanks, and thermal test vehicles at laboratory and facility scales. - Assess system resilience and reliability under various operational and failure scenarios. - Collaborate with hyperscalers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and partners to ensure alignment with AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workload requirements. - Contribute to the filing of patents, publications, and engage in industry standards development.

We are Johnson Controls, seeking a Senior Thermal Engineer to join our Data Center Thermal Solutions team within the Advanced Technology & Innovation group. This role involves developing and deploying innovative liquid cooling solutions for high-density data centers, specifically focused on AI and HPC environments. The position is located at our Advanced Technology and Innovation Center in New Freedom, PA, requiring a minimum of three days onsite each week. We offer a competitive salary range of $90,000 to $120,000, along with a bonus plan and comprehensive benefits package.
