Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field
- Over 7 years of experience in controls engineering, with a minimum of 4 years in data center or mission-critical facility applications
- Exceptional proficiency in PLC and DDC programming (Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar platforms)
- Strong knowledge of chiller plant optimization, psychrometrics, and hydronic system design
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, and OPC-UA
- Understanding of ASHRAE guidelines for data centers (TC 9.9 Thermal Guidelines, Standard 90.4)
- Proven ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control diagrams, and electrical schematics
- Preferred: Masters degree in Engineering or a related discipline
- Preferred: Experience with liquid cooling systems including rear-door heat exchangers and immersion cooling
- Preferred: Knowledge of power monitoring, PUE optimization, and energy management strategies
- Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license and relevant certifications such as Niagara 4 Technical Certification or Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
- Preferred: Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) thermal requirements and familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for operational technology (OT) networks
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of control systems for chiller plants, cooling distribution units (CDUs), and liquid cooling loops
- Create control strategies that optimize energy efficiency while maintaining precise temperature and humidity levels
- Develop logic for variable-speed pump and fan control and ensure proper thermal load balancing
- Oversee system integration with Building Management Systems (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms
- Manage commissioning activities including I/O checkout, loop tuning, and functional performance testing
- Establish test protocols for factory and site acceptance testing (FAT and SAT)
- Serve as a subject matter expert in controls engineering for complex data center projects
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers on controls best practices and troubleshooting techniques
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers and project managers to devise effective control solutions
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies for optimization and predictive maintenance initiatives
- Support the development of standardized control sequences and reusable code libraries
