Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Over 10 years of experience in software engineering with a minimum of 3–5 years in a leadership capacity.
- Strong expertise in firmware and embedded systems development using C and C++.
- Demonstrated ability to design and assess software architecture across the complete technology stack.
- Practical experience with GitHub and Atlassian tools.
- Profound knowledge of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
- Experience in collaborating with global teams and overseeing distributed projects.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and mentor a team of software engineers focusing on firmware, embedded systems, and communication technologies in C and C++.
- Ensure architectural integrity and maintain technical excellence throughout the entire technology stack—from hardware interfaces to cloud and end-user applications.
- Promote best practices for secure coding and work closely with Global Product Security teams to ensure adherence to security standards.
- Collaborate with Product Management, Program Management, Software Quality Assurance, and other engineering teams for the successful delivery of projects.
- Work in conjunction with Hardware Engineering to manage interdependencies and integration tasks.
- Partner with Program Management to fulfill scheduled milestones and deliverables.
- Offer architectural direction at both macro and micro levels.
- Tackle complex technical problems and guide design choices.
- Lead and support the team in Scrum and Agile methodologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Utilize development tools such as GitHub and the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.) for effective project execution.
- Collaborate with geographically dispersed engineering teams.
Description
We are Johnson Controls, seeking a Senior Manager of Embedded Software Engineering to lead a dynamic team of 10–15 engineers within our Fire Detection Business Unit, where we develop cutting-edge fire detection solutions utilized globally. This pivotal role requires a hands-on leader with extensive technical knowledge and experience in managing intricate software projects encompassing the full technology stack—from hardware and embedded systems to end-user applications. Our position requires in-office presence in Westford, MA, three days per week. We offer a competitive salary ranging from $130,000 to $175,000, along with a bonus plan contingent on individual and group performance. Additionally, a comprehensive benefits package is included. Exceptional candidates may be considered beyond the stated salary range, and we employ technology-driven tools to facilitate an efficient and equitable hiring process.
