Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Over 10 years of experience with various released thermal products and systems
- Experience in the chiller industry or large industrial HVAC sector
- System-level expertise across thermal product categories
- Proficiency in multiple technical areas including thermal, controls, electrical, and mechanical
- Competent in Microsoft 365/Excel (including basic macros/VBA for data analysis)
- CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
- Ability to perform engineering calculations and documentation (MathCAD, EES, or equivalent)
- Knowledge in heat transfer analysis (conduction, convection, two-phase)
- Strong interdisciplinary knowledge across thermal, controls, and electrical systems
- Proficient in thermodynamic cycle analysis
- Familiarity with fluid mechanics and hydraulic system design
- Expertise in sizing and selecting thermal system components
- Experience in prototype fabrication and hands-on testing
- Capability in managing cross-functional projects
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic planning for thermal product lines and systems; act as the thermal system architect
- Take ownership of product family thermal architecture and define integration frameworks for platform compatibility
- Develop and coordinate specifications for product families and set thermal performance benchmarks
- Drive enhancements to thermal system development processes within the organization
- Oversee a technical team of 2-5 engineers and technicians; spearhead multi-domain thermal integration projects
- Serve as a strategic communicator representing the thermal organization in planning sessions
- Provide mentoring to Senior and Principal Engineers

We are Johnson Controls Data Center Product Architecture team, seeking a Staff Data Center Thermal Systems Engineer for our Advanced Technology & Innovation group. In this role, you will be a technical leader for data center thermal solutions, focusing on long-range planning and architecture. You will work closely with a talented team in our Advanced Technology and Innovation Center located in New Freedom, PA. The position requires a minimum of three days onsite per week. We are looking for candidates who can either commute to our facility or are willing to relocate. We offer a dynamic work environment and opportunities for professional growth.
