Requirements

Must:
To meet our minimum qualifications for the position, you should have: - A Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related technical field. - Relevant experience in developing and utilizing mathematical or physics-based models to analyze complex systems. - Familiarity with Kalman filters and/or modern system estimation techniques. - Proficiency in a high-level programming language such as MATLAB or Python. - Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary for documenting and presenting work to colleagues and government sponsors. - A passion for tackling challenging technical problems that require both independent investigation and collaborative teamwork. - Willingness to occasionally travel to US Navy facilities, bases, and contractor sites to present findings. - The ability to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date and the potential for a Top Secret level clearance. Eligibility for this position includes U.S. citizenship. You will stand out if you have: - A Master's or PhD in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a similar technical discipline. - Experience modeling navigation sensors, including IMUs, GPS, or navigational sonars. - A Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

As a Navigation Analyst, you will: - Become the Subject Matter Expert in the mathematical theory and physics behind advanced navigation systems that operate under challenging conditions in support of critical military missions. - Apply your expertise to model errors in various navigation systems and collaborate with our team to assess their impact on tactical and strategic mission outcomes while exploring ways to mitigate these effects. - Work alongside a talented group of mathematicians, engineers, and physicists dedicated to navigation error analysis, with numerous opportunities to partner with innovative experts across different technical fields. Your specific tasks will involve: - Developing mathematical models that determine the performance of the most precise inertial navigation systems utilized by the US Navy's surface and subsurface fleet. - Deriving physics-based models that explain how various support aids to the navigation system interact with and affect the inertial system. - Evaluating the accuracy of the navigation systems in question and effectively communicating your conclusions and recommendations to decision-makers.
