Requirements
Must:
- Strong backend programming experience in a modern language (Ruby, Python, Go, Java, etc.)
- Willingness to learn Ruby if not already proficient
- Hands-on experience in deploying and maintaining production systems
- Practical experience with AWS services, particularly Lambda, SQS, EventBridge, S3, and CloudWatch
- Familiarity with handling Lambda limitations and potential failure scenarios
- Understanding of operational trade-offs, including retries, DLQs, and timeouts
- Ability to make decisions based on incomplete information and still deliver results
- Willingness to participate in on-call duties and take responsibility for outcomes
- Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating thoughts clearly and closing feedback loops
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of one or more agent workflows or platform components in a production environment
- Develop and manage event-driven systems that process vast amounts of records and events
- Design systems with fault tolerance in mind, implementing retries, DLQs, alarms, and recovery structures
- Integrate telemetry and dashboards to monitor job states, throughput, and error patterns
- Safely deploy changes using CI/CD practices and deployment safeguards
- Engage in on-call rotation and respond to incidents effectively
- Troubleshoot production issues swiftly, even with limited information and under pressure
- Clearly document decisions and trade-offs through code and other artifacts
- Enhance code quality, test coverage, and operational understanding in your areas of ownership
- Collaborate closely with leadership and senior engineers to navigate system constraints
