Requirements
Must:
- 12+ years of practical experience in database administration or engineering roles
- Extensive knowledge of enterprise database platforms such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar
- Demonstrated capability in performance tuning, query optimization, and advanced troubleshooting
- Proficiency in high availability and replication technologies like AlwaysOn, Data Guard, Clustering, or equivalent
- Solid understanding of database security, auditing, encryption, and compliance regulations
- Experience with automation and scripting, utilizing tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, or automation frameworks
- Familiarity with cloud database environments on AWS, Azure, or GCP is a significant asset
- Comprehensive knowledge of backup and recovery techniques and methodologies
- Ability to manage large-scale, mission-critical database systems
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across technical teams
- Strong leadership abilities with previous experience guiding or managing technical teams
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily database operations, which include monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Manage the installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching of various database platforms
- Supervise performance tuning, query optimization, and system auditing to ensure optimal performance
- Develop and implement effective backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans
- Safeguard database security through access controls, compliance assessments, and addressing vulnerabilities
- Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and security teams to facilitate deployments and resolve complex issues
- Drive automation of routine tasks and operational enhancements
- Handle database capacity planning and strategies for long-term scalability
- Create and sustain operational documentation, standards, and best practices
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical direction for essential projects
