Requirements
Must:
- Masters degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field
- Extensive experience in academic advising or a similar role in a higher education setting
- Strong understanding of academic policies, procedures, and student support services
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to build relationships and engage with a diverse student population
- Ability to analyze complex situations and provide effective solutions
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice in education
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced academic advising to undergraduate students, guiding them in achieving their academic and personal goals
- Counsel students on course selection and degree requirements, helping navigate complex academic pathways
- Foster a supportive environment through holistic advising techniques
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students to enhance their Berkeley experience
- Monitor and evaluate students academic progress and advise on compliance with degree requirements
- Develop Academic Success Plans for students not meeting College expectations
- Counsel students facing significant academic challenges and refer them to appropriate resources
- Guide students in identifying and addressing non-academic barriers impacting their education
- Explain registration and enrollment processes; assist students in making the most of academic opportunities
- Serve as an advising resource for College Advisors and provide expert advice on policies and procedures
- Analyze and recommend modifications to College policies impacting student success
- Collaborate with various departments to support the dissemination of information about College programs
