Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent technical/professional experience in network design, installation, and maintenance
- At least five years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of two years focused on installing and managing local and wide area networks
- Documented expertise in local and wide area networks, computer hardware/software, data communications, and network planning/analysis
- Strong analytical skills and excellent interpersonal/communication abilities to effectively engage with users of varying technical expertise
- Capacity to devise practical solutions to problems efficiently
- Valid state drivers license and proof of insurance (if using personal transportation)
Responsibilities
- Analyze user requirements and propose suitable network configurations adhering to departmental standards
- Implement and oversee bridges, routers, gateways, remote access servers, domain servers, security firewalls, application and device servers, and Internet/Intranet connections
- Design, configure, monitor, and optimize local and wide area networks and printers ensuring peak performance and cost-efficiency
- Conduct preventative and fault isolation maintenance on network systems, including servers and user files/databases
- Design, implement, and manage network security features for local and wide area networks while maintaining anti-virus protocols
- Customize and administer network management, task/project management, help desk, workgroup integration, and educational software packages
- Collaborate with telecommunications engineers to integrate voice, data, and video applications into networks
- Assess and evaluate new hardware, software, and communication products for network compatibility and relevance
- Develop, maintain, and update a comprehensive library of technical documentation
- Perform advanced diagnostics and maintenance on desktop devices when specialized knowledge is needed
- Oversee contractual management duties including vendor selection and proposal requests
- Work with cross-functional teams during the design and execution of IT projects and train other personnel to enhance their skills
- Assist management with establishing systems standards and both short- and long-term project management goals
- Stay updated on the latest advancements and methodologies in information technology
