Requirements
Must:
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, Control Systems, or a related technical field.
- At least 5 years of practical experience in automation or controls engineering within the food, beverage, dairy, or process manufacturing sectors.
- Strong expertise in PLC and HMI programming on the Rockwell Automation platform.
- Proven track record managing the complete Rockwell ecosystem, including firmware, licensing, patching, and AssetCentre.
- Solid grasp of industrial networking protocols such as Ethernet/IP and TCP/IP.
- Hands-on experience with server virtualization platforms (Hyper-V and/or VMware ESXi) and Windows Server management.
- Background in instrumentation, VFDs, servo systems, and process control loops.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control system documentation.
- Demonstrated history of leading automation projects and coordinating with external vendors and integrators.
- Understanding of dairy processing operations and sanitary manufacturing standards.
Responsibilities
- Program, configure, troubleshoot, and uphold PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems on the Rockwell Automation platform.
- Assume full responsibility for the Rockwell Automation portfolio at the site, including firmware management and platform health maintenance.
- Create and enhance control logic for processes like pasteurization, separation, batching, and filling.
- Oversee and manage the virtualization infrastructure and Windows Server environments for automation applications.
- Establish, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial network infrastructure.
- Manage system backups, version control, and technical documentation for automation assets.
- Lead the preventive maintenance program for all automation and control systems.
- Minimize production interruptions through timely corrective actions and fault resolution.
- Supervise the automation asset lifecycle, including hardware revisions and end-of-life planning.
- Drive automation-related capital and improvement projects from initial concept to final handover.
- Develop technical specifications and documentation for systems architecture.
- Collaborate with equipment OEMs and vendors to ensure compatibility and performance.
- Handle project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for automation initiatives.
- Provide immediate troubleshooting support to operations and maintenance teams during production.
- Analyze performance data to identify causes of downtime or process variation.
- Support commissioning, startup, and validation of new equipment and processes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards in control systems.
- Maintain and improve safety and emergency response systems.
Description
We are Flora Food Group, proudly establishing a new dairy manufacturing facility in Hugoton, Kansas. This site will produce a variety of dairy products including processed milk, creamers, and cream cheeses. Our goal is to build a cutting-edge automation function from the ground up. As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will play a critical role, being part of a two-person automation team responsible for managing the full automation and controls landscape. In this fully on-site position, you will engage in hands-on programming and troubleshooting daily, while also leading projects and collaborating with suppliers and global teams.
