Requirements

Must:
- Minimum of 3 years in embedded Linux firmware development - Proficient in low-level driver design: V4L2 camera/ISP, ALSA audio codecs, SPI/I2C/UART interfaces - Experience with Linux kernel compilation, BSP customization, and board bring-up for ARM SoCs (NXP i.MX or equivalent) - Familiarity with the Yocto Project for building and customizing embedded Linux distributions - Skilled in Debian packaging, system configuration, and service management using systemd - Strong Python programming for embedded systems including hardware interfaces, MQTT services, and ML pipelines - Knowledge of on-device AI model integration: ONNX Runtime, TensorFlow Lite, or similar frameworks - Capable of building or refining ML models for audio classification or computer vision - Proficient in Shell scripting for OTA, provisioning, and automation of deployments - Experienced with AWS IoT Core or similar MQTT-based IoT communication - Familiar with GStreamer or other media pipeline technologies - Independent and proactive, demonstrating quick adaptability and ownership of tasks - Previous experience in a small engineering team of 5 or fewer - Regular use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini, etc.) as an integral part of development - Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, demonstrating high performance and accountability - Valid drivers license is mandatory - Authorization to work in the United States is required; no visa sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

- Take ownership of and release production firmware for a custom Linux-based IoT device utilizing Debian and Yocto - Develop and manage low-level drivers for camera systems (V4L2/ISP), audio systems (ALSA/codec), touch interfaces, and peripheral connections - Configure, build, and maintain Linux kernels and BSPs for NXP ARM processors - Extend and maintain Python services, including MQTT clients (AWS IoT Core), on-device AI processes, and fleet management - Design and enhance on-device AI models for audio classification and computer vision tasks at the edge - Incorporate and optimize ONNX and various ML runtime frameworks for low-latency embedded inference - Create and maintain GStreamer pipelines for video and audio streaming with hardware acceleration - Develop and manage the OTA update system, focusing on content-addressed storage, versioned manifests, and staged deployments - Write and maintain ESP32 firmware in C using ESP-IDF for LED controls and UART connections - Oversee system-level configurations, including systemd services, NetworkManager, iptables, and ALSA settings - Utilize AI coding tools consistently in daily tasks to improve shipping speed - Occasionally travel to customer sites and events as required - Engage in direct collaboration with the founder and a small team of engineers.
