Requirements
Must:
- I am looking for candidates who possess a Bachelor's degree and have 2-5 years of relevant experience in system administration or similar roles. Alternatively, candidates with extensive experience may be considered.
- A relevant associate's or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a comparable field is preferred, although significant experience may substitute for formal education.
- I require a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+).
- Candidates should have basic proficiency in managing and maintaining Windows and Linux servers, operating systems, and enterprise applications.
- Foundational knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and best practices for system security is necessary.
- Hands-on experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds) and basic troubleshooting methods is essential.
- Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash is recommended.
- The ability to perform well in a demanding 24/7 operational setting is crucial, including being available for shift work.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills are necessary for effective teamwork.
- An active Secret clearance is required.
Responsibilities
As a Junior System Administrator, you will be a vital part of our Information Technology Operations Center (ITOC), which operates 24/7 to ensure the smooth functioning and security of critical IT systems. Your duties will include:
- Assisting in the management and upkeep of servers, operating systems (Windows and Linux), and enterprise applications in a high-stakes operational environment.
- Supporting the administration of virtualization technologies, including VMware and Hyper-V, to optimize resource use and maintain high availability.
- Helping manage Active Directory, Group Policy, and user access controls to sustain secure and efficient operations.
- Utilizing system monitoring tools like SolarWinds to proactively assess system health, performance, and security events.
- Adhering to stringent system security protocols and industry best practices to safeguard sensitive data and systems.
- Conducting initial troubleshooting for common system issues related to server performance, operating systems, and enterprise applications, escalating more complex problems as necessary.
- Assisting in automating routine tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash to enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborating effectively with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of IT services and to optimize operational efficiency.
- Being available for shift work as required by the operational needs of the ITOC.
