Requirements
Must:
- 8+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
- 4+ years of direct hands-on experience with Veritas NetBackup (version 10.x or newer)
- Must be eligible for an active Secret security clearance
- Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (such as Security+, Network+, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of NetBackup architecture including master/media servers, clients, MSDP, SLP, and AIR
- Proficient in both Linux (RHEL/SUSE) and Windows Server administration
- Experience managing NetBackup appliances
- Solid grasp of data deduplication, replication, and cloud-tiering technologies
- Familiarity with protecting virtual environments (VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V)
- Understanding of SAN storage, tape libraries, and OST devices (e.g., HPE StoreOnce, Quantum i-series)
- Proficient in scripting and automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python) to enhance backup processes
- Understanding of ITIL frameworks and enterprise change management processes
Responsibilities
- Oversee the full backup lifecycle, from initial setup to thorough disaster recovery drills, ensuring compliance and operational stability
- Install, configure, update, and patch Veritas NetBackup master, media, and client servers on Linux and Windows systems
- Develop, implement, and oversee backup policies, Storage Lifecycle Policies (SLP), deduplication, and replication strategies (including Auto Image Replication - AIR)
- Execute daily operations such as monitoring backup success, addressing failures, planning capacity, managing tape libraries, and coordinating off-site vaulting
- Conduct regular disaster recovery validation tests and update relevant documentation
- Diagnose and resolve complex backup/restore challenges and performance issues across the infrastructure
- Engage in audits and compliance activities, producing detailed reports with Veritas NetBackup IT Analytics (OpsCenter)
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including storage, server, virtualization, application, and security
- Provide on-call support on a rotating basis as necessary
- Maintain precise documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and runbooks for backup operations
