Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline required.
- Masters degree preferred.
- Training in leadership and supervision preferred.
- Over 8 years of experience in software engineering with a focus on new product development.
- 2-5 years of experience in a leadership role or technical supervision preferred.
- Experience building or scaling software engineering teams preferred.
- Familiarity with managing subcontractors and remote teams preferred.
- Experience in supporting military or regulated programs preferred.
- Background in embedded or real-time systems is a plus.
- Security clearance is desirable or the ability to obtain one.
Responsibilities
- Build, lead, and expand the software engineering team, including hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and managing performance.
- Define the technical direction for embedded and application software development in accordance with system architecture and program specifications.
- Provide technical leadership, architectural insights, and design oversight, contributing hands-on support to ensure delivery and mitigate technical risks.
- Establish and uphold software engineering standards, best practices, design reviews, and lessons-learned initiatives.
- Facilitate the transition from outsourced development to internal ownership of vital software functions.
- Serve as the primary liaison for software subcontractors and external partners; draft statements of work and offer technical advice.
- Plan, estimate, and oversee software development activities to adhere to cost, timing, and performance goals.
- Support bids and proposals, including preliminary design, cost assessments, and technical documentation.
- Ensure adherence to site quality management system standards and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and present technical reports, recommendations, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with the transition to production, encompassing testing strategies, process controls, and lifecycle support.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to achieve both enterprise and departmental objectives.
