Requirements
Must:
- Masters degree in Engineering, Robotics, Control Systems, or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering within aerospace, robotics, or complex electromechanical systems
- Direct, hands-on experience with UAVs or autonomous vehicle platforms
- Strong grasp of UAV subsystems and their interactions at the system level
- Proven experience in transitioning systems from concept through prototype to production readiness
- Hands-on, pragmatic approach with ease in lab and field settings, even with evolving data
- Familiarity with principles of high-reliability system design
- Capability to function effectively in ambiguous environments while maintaining a balance between speed and engineering rigor
- Excellent communication skills to unite cross-functional teams around system-level decisions
Responsibilities
- Oversee the system-level architecture for UAV platforms, encompassing airframe, propulsion, avionics, sensors, payloads, communications, and ground systems
- Transform product goals and operational requirements into clear, testable system specifications
- Spearhead system integration efforts to guarantee smooth interaction between hardware and software subsystems both on the ground and during flight
- Plan, execute, and facilitate flight testing; troubleshoot issues in real-time and convert test findings into design improvements
- Conduct trade studies and make knowledgeable system-level decisions balancing cost, weight, performance, schedule, and risk
- Provide technical guidance and direction to hardware engineers and, in a dotted-line capacity, to flight control engineers to enable scalable, reliable platforms
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate system-level risks through safety analysis, redundancy strategies, and robust architectural choices
- Mentor fellow engineers and foster systems-thinking practices across the organization
