Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field
- Proven high hazard underwriting authority in one or more industries
- Over 10 years of experience in engineering and/or underwriting for large clients, including high hazard sectors
- Comprehensive understanding of the physical characteristics of facilities related to assigned occupancies
- Familiarity with financial motivators that influence risk
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and Excel skills with strong attention to detail
- Broad knowledge of risk identification, property insurance coverage, underwriting practices, and company standards
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for training and developing clear underwriting requirements
Responsibilities
- Lead portfolio analysis, capacity setting, pricing strategies, and development of underwriting requirements for Pulp and Paper and Construction
- Collaborate with team members, engineers, and corporate staff to research and improve underwriting requirements and procedures
- Provide leadership and support to operations underwriters, ensuring understanding of impacts before implementation
- Support underwriting exceptions, maintaining consistent risk selection and judgment in your portfolio
- Conduct travel for 2-3 operational underwriting audits annually
- Provide underwriting training to team members and assist in developing new coverages based on client needs
- Contribute ideas for ongoing improvements in underwriting practices and system development
