Requirements
Must:
- Proven track record in managing R&D projects within the defense or aerospace sectors, responsible for cost, schedule, and technical outcomes.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Strong proficiency in both written and verbal communication, along with documentation skills.
- Excellent skills in interacting with customers and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with government contracts, particularly with organizations such as NASA and U.S. defense contractors.
- Deep knowledge of laser system principles and technologies.
- Additional expertise in engineering systems and components applicable to aerospace and defense missions.
- Bachelors degree in a relevant engineering or applied-science field is required; Masters or PhD preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience with a proven ability to lead large, diverse technical teams in an engineering setting.
- Direct experience in systems engineering and the development of optical or laser systems for high-reliability aerospace applications.
- Understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM).
Responsibilities
- Lead interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and manufacturing personnel to ensure successful project outcomes.
- Act as the main point of contact for customers, fostering collaboration and ensuring open lines of communication.
- Create and maintain detailed program plans that align with client work statements and technical specifications.
- Supervise the entire development lifecycle of complex active electro-optical systems, from initial design to final delivery.
- Proactively recognize, manage, and communicate technical, budgetary, and scheduling risks while developing recovery plans as necessary.
- Predict program resource needs, including workforce, facilities, and equipment.
- Establish system-level performance criteria and oversee the distribution of requirements across all subsystems.
- Provide high-level briefings on project status, milestones, and challenges to executive leadership.
- Collaborate with Business Development to identify growth opportunities, assist with proposal development, and engage with key clients.
