Requirements
Must:
- Extensive experience with PHP-based systems, including refactoring of legacy codebases
- Proven track record of modernizing or rebuilding existing systems, not limited to greenfield projects
- In-depth understanding of system architecture and application design
- Demonstrated ability to enhance performance in data-intensive applications, especially in reporting

- Self-motivated, capable of working independently with accountability for results
- Proven experience in redesigning reporting systems or dashboards
- Familiarity with caching strategies and background processing
- Proficiency in multiple backend languages (e.g., PHP, C, Node.js, Python, Go)
- Experience managing dedicated servers or cloud infrastructure
- Knowledge of GitHub workflows and basic deployment processes
Responsibilities
- Assessing and comprehending an existing production PHP codebase on a dedicated server
- Integrating the legacy system into proper version control with GitHub as the primary reference
- Identifying architectural constraints that affect maintainability, reporting, and adaptability
- Redesigning system architecture emphasizing clarity, modularity, and long-term sustainability
- Enhancing reporting through optimized data modeling, SQL/query performance, indexing, and appropriate caching or pre-aggregation
- Revising reports to align with business usage and interpretation of data
- Analyzing current workflows and finding areas for simplification, enhancement, or redesign in partnership with stakeholders
- Evaluating whether to retain modern PHP for the rebuild or switch to another backend language/framework, clearly communicating the technical and business implications
- Producing comprehensive documentation on architecture, data models, deployment, and maintenance
- Offering post-launch support and future enhancements on an ongoing basis
Description
We are excited to welcome a Senior Software Developer to our Winnipeg, MB team. In this role, you will spearhead the redesign and rebuilding of our internal system currently written in PHP and hosted on a dedicated server. This system supports 50-100 users in peak times and faces challenges primarily due to legacy architecture and outdated workflows. Our goal is to align the systems reporting and data flows with contemporary business needs and modernize its architecture for sustainable maintenance. We offer a full-time salary during the 6-12 month initiation phase, followed by ongoing maintenance compensation.
