Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline with 5-7 years of relevant experience; or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
- Proficiency in developing or suggesting analytical methodologies for addressing ambiguous problems or situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively, engaging with both internal and external analysts and experts for enhanced analytical and technical insights.
- Relevant coursework and practical experience in the Cyber Operations field.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity tools including Splunk, ServiceNow, Recorded Future, and Anomali ThreatStream.
- Experience in team settings with a proactive approach to mastering new operating systems, security applications, and open-source tools.
- Understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems and common applications, along with experience in detecting malware and infection techniques.
- Knowledge of information systems security, network architecture, database fundamentals, and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Comprehension of basic cyber operations concepts, terminology, and principles.
- Awareness of common malware types (viruses, Trojans, etc.) and their infection methods (ports, attachments, etc.).
- Understanding of fundamental network security principles such as encryption, firewalls, and authentication mechanisms.
- One certification from the CSSP Incident Responder Category (e.g., CEH, CHFI, CySA+, or similar).
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough all-source analysis, digital forensics, and targeted research to identify and assess cyber threats from criminal actors, employing threat intelligence tools for user and network protection.
- Respond to cybersecurity incidents in alignment with Information Security Policies and Industry Best Practices, ensuring effective coordination and timely communication across various sectors during incident responses.
- Provide critical information and assessments to inform leadership, users, and customers regarding cyber threats.
- Execute network security analysis to support Intrusion Detection operations, enhancing security through the development and refinement of detection indicators.
- Collaborate with fellow information security professionals to analyze threat data, compile reports, present event details to leadership, and coordinate remediation efforts across multiple state agencies.
- Ensure the effectiveness of security enhancements and their alignment with configuration management protocols.
- Confirm that technologies utilized by the Security Monitoring Team align with operational workflows.
- Occasionally provide extended shift coverage, with minimal travel as needed.
- Monitor various information security platforms and forums to stay informed about emerging network threats and attack strategies.
- Analyze the impact of evolving threats and communicate associated risks to relevant leadership and business units.
- Monitor Maryland state networks for anomalous or malicious activities using various analytical techniques and SEIM tools in a dynamic operational environment.
