Requirements

Must:
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field; or equivalent professional experience - At least 15 years of software engineering experience or comparable depth of experience - Proven track record in a lead role overseeing data modeling and governance with demonstrated success and impact on business outcomes - Experienced in understanding business processes and translating them into functional definitions of data models - Extensive knowledge in data modeling across structured/unstructured data, schema vs. schema-less, batch vs. real-time technologies, including data lake technologies, SQL/No-SQL, streaming, and data storage formats (Parquet, ORC, Avro), and query engines (e.g., Spark, Presto, SQL) - Solid background in architecting and implementing metadata management frameworks, including data catalogs, lineage, quality, and observability for both big data and real-time processes - Strong capability to decompose complex problems and execute manageable tasks to demonstrate continuous delivery - A comprehensive understanding of distributed systems, cloud computing, and microservices architecture - Experience with mission-critical enterprise-level applications - Ability to collaborate with business partners, cross-functional team members, and to coach and mentor experienced colleagues - In-depth experience in building big data real-time production systems that drive business success - Familiarity with delivery methodologies such as Agile

- Provide thought leadership in data modeling and governance that aligns with and enhances business strategy and success - Advocate for cohesive data modeling and comprehensive data governance across the data portfolio for present and future achievements - Act as a hands-on contributor and a role model for engineers, fostering a robust engineering culture and discipline, including practices such as "show and tell" - Collaborate with the data and engineering teams on technology, architectural strategies, and decision-making - Lead data modeling efforts both functionally and technically by partnering with business and engineering stakeholders to create cohesive data models, optimized database schemas, and effective data storage solutions - Offer technical guidance on data governance with the appropriate framework, architecture, implementation, and operations throughout the entire data lifecycle - Develop expertise in business process domains to better align technologies with successful outcomes - Collaborate with the engineering leadership team to develop and execute the company's technical and business strategies - Conduct impact analysis to proactively identify the effects of changes across multiple applications and systems - Perform technical due diligence and architectural assessments of third-party technologies and solutions - Experiment with and validate ideas, and recommend solutions based on findings - Document standards, best practices, and engineering artifacts for ease of understanding and maintenance of top-tier software systems - Troubleshoot critical production issues and implement effective solutions across multiple applications/systems - Lead continuous learning and process improvement initiatives to enhance design and engineering practices - Assist in talent growth by participating in hiring processes and mentoring team members

We are searching for a Principal Software Engineer with a specialization in data modeling and governance within our data engineering organization. You will take a proactive role in promoting data modeling and governance at the ecosystem level and will serve as a thought leader, guiding engineers on best practices for effective work methods. As a principal engineer, you will lead the technical vision, architecture, and strategy for implementing data modeling and governance within our data ecosystem. Your collaboration with both the data team and external partners will be crucial in ensuring data success throughout the full lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of engineering experience with a strong emphasis on data modeling and governance. You will function as both a practical technical leader and a strategic advisor, establishing solid foundations that support innovation across the organization. Our competitive compensation includes a base salary range of $208,761 – $306,183, with eligibility for an annual variable bonus of cash and equity of 20-60%.
