Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)
- Over 8 years of direct experience as a full-stack developer/architect, focusing on backend architecture design, MVP prototyping, and scalable enterprise application delivery
- Minimum 6 years in leadership roles, mentoring engineering teams, and delivering production code in short cycles, especially for remote teams
- Advanced degree in data science, data analytics, or a related field is a plus, along with familiarity with NASA systems or missions
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is mandatory
- Proven ability to quickly prototype complete systems from scratch, employing serverless architectures and scalability to enterprise standards while ensuring security and performance
- Extensive knowledge in distributed systems design, microservices, and high-availability architectures
- Experience in dynamic environments or skunkworks teams, fulfilling multiple roles including DevOps, Database Administrator, Frontend, and Backend
- Proficient in modern frameworks such as React/Next.js (Frontend) and Python/Go/Node.js (Backend)
- Expertise in developing API services using REST or other popular methodologies in distributed systems
- Strong background in relational and non-relational databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and DynamoDB
- Advanced capabilities in data modeling, ETL processes, and creating predictive analytics/ML models
- Comprehensive understanding of data structures, algorithms, common design patterns, and performance improvement techniques
- Cloud and DevOps proficiency in major cloud service providers (AWS, Azure) and significant experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation), and automated CI/CD
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement, grant proposals, and reporting; a self-motivated problem solver with strategic insight aligning technology with business outcomes
- Comfortable working in ambiguous R&D settings
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum/Lean methodologies for sprint planning and risk management
- Enthusiastic about rapid iteration, experimentation, and swift transitions from prototype to MVP to enterprise-level applications
Responsibilities
- Design and develop end-to-end systems that begin as lightweight prototypes and transition into production-grade, scalable, secure applications
- Write production-level code, with a focus on early-stage prototypes and essential backend/data components
- Take full ownership of the architecture across frontend, backend, data, and cloud for all products, ensuring a seamless path from prototype to production
- Spearhead the strategy and implementation of Generative AI and AI-enabled features
- Act as the engineering counterpart to the D&S Product Manager, co-managing technical strategy, prioritization, decisions, and execution
- Design and create normalized data systems that process, clean, and represent complex physiological sensor data, developing pipelines to convert raw signals into actionable insights for mission scientists
- Provide high-leverage support as a problem-solver and multiplier for the team, facilitating swift delivery and ensuring alignment with mission timelines
- Offer technical guidance, mentorship, and code reviews for engineers across all repositories, promoting clean, scalable architectural patterns
- Lead robust CI/CD practices and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) initiatives to guarantee continuous delivery, monitoring, and stability for both AI-enabled and core applications
- Construct secure, scalable infrastructure by developing robust data and software ecosystems using normalized databases (RDBMS/NoSQL), RESTful/GraphQL APIs, and cloud-native services (AWS/Azure)
- Advocate for best practices and innovation in R&D workflows that evolve into operational-grade systems, keeping ahead of emerging trends in software development and AI
