Requirements
Must:
- Associate degree or equivalent experience in Diesel Technology, Electrical/Controls Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience working with diesel engine controls, generator sets, or power systems
- Comprehensive knowledge of diesel engine operation and electronic control systems
- Familiarity with electronic control modules (ECMs), sensors, wiring harnesses, and engine diagnostics
- Understanding of CAN communications (preferably J1939)
- Capability to interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in using PCs and Microsoft Office applications
- Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience with engines from manufacturers such as Cummins, CAT, John Deere, MTU, and Volvo
- Familiarity with generator controls, load sharing, and paralleling techniques
- Knowledge of PLC or HMI systems
- Understanding of engine protection logic and emissions standards
- Background in OEM or field support roles
Responsibilities
- Furnish technical support for diesel engine and generator control systems through phone, email, and remote assistance
- Diagnose engine control problems, including alarms, shutdowns, fault codes, starting issues, and performance challenges
- Provide support for electronic control modules (ECMs), sensors, actuators, wiring, and control panels
- Evaluate engine data, fault histories, and live metrics to identify root causes
- Assist in system setup, configuration, commissioning, and calibration
- Read and analyze electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control documentation
- Facilitate integration between engine controls, PLCs, HMIs, and switchgear
- Record troubleshooting cases, steps taken, and resolutions in the support database
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and field service teams on complex issues
- Aid in recognizing recurring problems and contribute to product or process enhancements
