Requirements

Must:
- Proven experience with advanced scientific instrumentation and laboratory equipment, including computer hardware and software. - Strong technical skills in maintaining and repairing electronic and mechanical devices. - Excellent organizational abilities and capability to work independently. - Willingness to learn on-the-job and keep pace with advancements in laboratory instrumentation, computer hardware, software, and regulations. - Expected to collaborate with Colgates Environmental Health and Safety Office to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including certification as necessary. - Team-oriented approach with the ability to interact with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students of varying technical skills. - A Masters or doctoral degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field is preferred, though a bachelors degree with relevant work experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

- Oversee the maintenance and routine servicing of departmental scientific instruments and equipment. - Ensure timely repairs and coordinate effectively with vendor service engineers as required. - Collaborate with faculty and department staff to troubleshoot equipment and instrument issues. - Participate in the evaluation, purchasing, site preparation, and installation of new or upgraded laboratory instruments and equipment as needed. - Manage inventory by ordering, stocking, and transporting compressed gases, cryogens, solvents, and other necessary materials for laboratory operations. - Keep thorough records of the instruments, their maintenance history, and vendor contacts. - Coordinate with ITS for the maintenance and troubleshooting of computers linked with instruments. - Assist faculty and students in the appropriate use of laboratory instruments and equipment while being a knowledge resource. - Maintain high availability to respond to unexpected equipment failures and liaise with Facilities on infrastructure issues affecting laboratory operations. - Uphold lab safety policies and stay informed about relevant regulations and safety training.
