Requirements
Must:
- Over 10 years in application/infrastructure architecture across various technologies with recent hands-on experience in object-oriented design
- Expertise in payments across the entire lifecycle (initiation, validation, clearing, settlement, exceptions) and a strong understanding of ISO 20022 for different payment types
- Demonstrated experience integrating enterprise payments systems with internal applications using API-led and event-driven methodologies (e.g., REST, gRPC, messaging, Kafka)
- Familiarity with clearing networks such as Fedwire, ACH, CHIPS, CHAPS, SWIFT (RITS exposure is a plus) along with the necessary controls for resilience, recovery, and monitoring
- Excellent consultative, communicative, and stakeholder management skills across various teams including Operations, Product, Business, and Technology; proficiency in Agile/Scrum methodologies and architectural frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, UML, C4)
Responsibilities
- Establish and oversee end-to-end application and integration architecture for both real-time and batch payments, ensuring an optimal balance of throughput, latency, resiliency, data interfaces, and client-server/microservices communication
- Collaborate with Business and Principal Solution/Enterprise Architects to align designs with enterprise strategy and prepare presentations for Design Authority/Architecture Review Board evaluations
- Consult with technology and business stakeholders to assess and recommend methodologies, practices, and technologies (APIs, events, messaging, integration patterns) that promote efficient, flexible, and robust solutions
- Drive the design of payments solutions and integrations with clearing/settlement networks (e.g., Fedwire, ACH, CHIPS, CHAPS, SWIFT; RITS knowledge preferred) and internal systems throughout the payment lifecycle
- Advocate for modern methodologies—ISO 20022, event-driven systems, cloud-native microservices—and mentor teams on scalable design, quality, and operational readiness
