Requirements
Must:
- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior security or network security engineering position, ideally within government or public sector
- Valid drivers license is mandatory
- Preferred certifications include CISSP, CCNA, CCNP Security, CCSA/CCSE, CySA+, or equivalent
- Strong analytical skills to tackle complex network and firewall challenges
- Proven experience in deploying, managing, and supporting enterprise firewalls
- Ability to assess security risks and aid in remediation efforts
- Excellent problem-solving and communication abilities
- In-depth understanding of networking, routing, switching, and network security technologies
- Commitment to continuous learning in emerging firewall technologies and threats
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly articulate firewall decisions and network risks
- Proficient in planning and managing firewall projects, including upgrades and migrations
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, administer, and support the City of Tampas enterprise firewall infrastructure
- Deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise firewalls, managing rule bases, NAT settings, clustering, and failover operations
- Carry out daily firewall operations including rule reviews, access requests, log analysis, and optimization
- Monitor firewall performance, availability, and overall security posture
- Execute firewall upgrades, patches, backups, and overall lifecycle management
- Conduct regular audits of firewall rules and configurations for compliance and risk reduction
- Assist in designing network segmentation and micro-segmentation strategies
- Collaborate with networking teams to ensure secure connectivity for city programs and public safety initiatives
- Analyze security alerts, incidents, and vulnerabilities as part of security operations
- Support penetration testing and vulnerability remediation relevant to network security and firewalls
- Document findings, participate in incident response, and recommend security improvements
- Identify risks associated with firewall configurations and network exposure, proposing technical controls to mitigate risks
- Train and guide IT staff on secure firewall and network practices
- Work with vendors for the maintenance and support of firewall systems and security solutions
- Evaluate firewall-related tools to enhance operational efficiency and security visibility
Description
We are seeking a highly responsible Senior Security Systems Analyst to join our Technology & Innovation Security Office in Tampa. This in-office role involves rotating on-call duties and requires you to manage the design, implementation, administration, and support of our enterprise firewall infrastructure.
