Requirements

Must:
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a similar field. - A minimum of five (5) years experience in network operations and administration, particularly in Utility Operations or Electric Scheduling. - At least three (3) years in a lead role within a relevant experience context. - Minimum of three (3) years hands-on experience with Synchronous Optical Networking (SONET) equipment in utility applications. - A valid California Class C drivers license is required at the time of appointment and throughout employment. - Additional relevant experience can substitute education on a year-for-year basis, up to four (4) years. - Training in electric utility substation safety standards is preferred. - Familiarity with Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) and VMWare environments is advantageous. - Experience in network configuration, firewalls, routers, switches, Cisco Access Control Systems (ACS), and Lightweight Directory Authentication Protocol (LDAP) is highly desirable. - Must be available for 24/7 critical networking support and maintain any mandated licenses or certifications.

Responsibilities

- Design, implement, and maintain both enterprise and utility-specific network infrastructures, focusing on Cisco technologies. - Oversee the administration and monitoring of network services, ensuring secure operations and compliance with applicable regulations. - Manage advanced network and security products, including Cisco firewalls and intrusion prevention systems. - Maintain DNS infrastructure and support VoIP systems for optimal call quality and reliability. - Proactively monitor network performance to identify and resolve connectivity, latency, or system failures. - Document network configurations and changes accurately and collaborate with internal teams on infrastructure projects. - Participate in organizational capacity planning and contribute to business continuity through high availability and disaster recovery initiatives. - Investigate and report on security incidents as per departmental policies and provide mentorship to junior staff.
