Requirements
Must:
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma.
- Experience:
- Significant experience in application development or programming within a production environment.
- Extensive experience in programming and web development.
- Profound experience with ASP.NET and SQL.
- Familiarity with software management tools.
- Additional Considerations:
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent coursework, certification, and experience that equates to a bachelor’s degree.
- Experience: Advanced expertise with software management tools, PL/SQL, C#, and ASP.NET.
Responsibilities
In this role, I will support the optimization of our University’s information systems by analyzing, designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining applications and interfaces driven by databases. I expect the candidate to have substantial web application development experience, which includes real-world design considerations, debugging, security implications, and process improvement, along with the ability to integrate systems across various platforms. The successful candidate will need to foster effective communication with customers and technical as well as non-technical users while handling their current technologies and business processes. Furthermore, the candidate will be responsible for developing schedules for development, launching, and support activities.
- Analyze both new and existing software to find effective ways to interface applications and share data between systems.
- Evaluate vendor proposals for the acquisition of hardware, software, and technical services, ensuring adherence to specifications and the needs of various business units.

This full-time position is classified as exempt and comes with a starting salary of $84,535, which is negotiable based on education and experience. The role includes comprehensive benefits from the Commonwealth of Virginia and Christopher Newport University, such as retirement plans, medical, dental, vision, and other optional benefits. Employees are eligible for various forms of leave, including vacation and personal time. New hires will undergo a 12-month probationary period and are required to complete a New Employee Orientation Program.
