Requirements
Must:
- I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field focused on information technology, or possess equivalent experience.
- I have 1-3 years of experience within a large 24/7 high availability data center operations environment (with around 1000 servers).
- I possess specialized knowledge and understanding of network and server operating systems, usually acquired through formal technical training.
- I have experience working with load balancers, including adding/removing servers and service ports.
- I possess solid knowledge of network concepts, which includes the ability to configure NFS and NIS, utilize basic network commands for troubleshooting/DNS validation, and understand basic routing concepts.
- I possess working knowledge of UNIX and Windows Server-based operating systems, along with a strong understanding of paging and swapping, inter-process communication, device drivers, and file system concepts.
- I am familiar with scripting in administrative languages such as Perl or PowerShell.
- I have experience with service management tools like Remedy/SmartIT or similar.
- I possess strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on efficient service restoration.
- I pay close attention to detail while executing technically detailed tasks.
- I have IT management experience with process development and improvement.
- I am familiar with implementing key IT standardized processes and methodologies such as ITIL, Event Management, Incident, Problem, and Knowledge Management.
- I consider myself a change agent, capable of influencing my team towards continuous operational process and technology enhancements.
Responsibilities
- I act as the primary point of contact for Schwab’s technology teams.
- I work within the Information Technology Operations (ITO) Command Center, engaging in the technical administration of network systems.
- I assist with monitoring enterprise-wide alerts and perform incident, problem, and change management tasks.
- I provide initial triages during events and conduct post-event reviews.
- I ensure that production systems operate reliably and efficiently.
- I am part of a dedicated team that supports mission-critical operations 24/7/365, working from 1:00 pm to 1:30 am ET, Friday through Sunday.
