Requirements

Must:
- A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a relevant technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience. - Minimum of 8 years of experience in Data & Analytics within an enterprise environment, focusing on areas such as Data Engineering, Cloud Computing, Systems Engineering, Master Data Management, Machine Learning Engineering, Infrastructure & Operations, Site Reliability Engineering, and Data Governance. - A minimum of 5 years managing direct reports. - At least 5 years of experience leading the complete design, development, and support processes of data management disciplines, including data platforms, integration, modeling, optimization, Business Intelligence reporting tools, and Data Governance/Quality. - Experience in building enterprise-grade solutions with Microsoft Azure or similar cloud platforms. - Familiarity with DevOps, version control (Git), Site Reliability Engineering practices, testing frameworks, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipeline building (preferably Azure DevOps), and scripting languages like Python and shell scripts within an Agile/Scrum framework. - Knowledge of the ITIL framework and experience with Service Management tools like ServiceNow. - An engineering mindset to drive the team towards next-generation technologies. - A proven ability to prioritize strategically, balancing business delivery with technical debt and engineering excellence. - Strong persuasive and influential communication skills to articulate complex concepts to stakeholders at all levels, along with excellent interpersonal abilities to develop a shared vision with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

- I will partner with various stakeholders and other Data & Analytics leaders to influence strategic plans and roadmaps. - I will identify new opportunities for Data & Analytics solutions by cultivating relationships within the organization and nurturing those partnerships. - My focus will be on enhancing experience and efficiency, applying my extensive knowledge and critical thinking skills to set the direction and define appropriate goals for the teams that achieve enterprise objectives. - I will clearly communicate the team’s vision, delivering consistent messages that align with our strategic direction. - I will prioritize our objectives and offer a comprehensive cross-functional approach to solution recommendations, including ROI, implementation plans, and scalability. - I will ensure that commitments are fulfilled through a results-driven focus, efficiently leveraging the team’s talent. - I will guide the teams in designing and implementing intelligent and reliable platforms and solutions tailored to our Data & Analytics needs while addressing complex business challenges. - I will maintain a focus on FinOps regarding cloud expenses and actively manage contracts and consulting expenditures, continuously optimizing our spending through automation and process improvements. - Together with the department leader, I will oversee budget management, estimate future development costs, and track monthly expenditures. - I will drive continuous improvement initiatives with consulting partners and vendors while relentlessly pursuing operational excellence, ensuring ownership and accountability. - I will prioritize resolution for significant incidents and production issues impacting customers and the business. - I will oversee root cause analysis and proactively identify and prevent issues, defining and measuring service-level objectives and key performance indicators. - I will lead projects to enhance platform reliability and direct the definition and maintenance of data platforms to consistently meet critical business insights and end analysts' needs. - I will ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and audit requirements and promote strong data quality and governance. - I will inspire teams to aim for excellence, enriching our company culture, advocating for continuous learning, and promoting collaboration and employee engagement. - I will serve as a coach and empower the team by partnering with project managers to drive planning and execution for projects and quarterly milestones. - I will lead work prioritization and remove roadblocks while ensuring my direct reports have the necessary resources, training, and support to succeed in their roles. - I will evaluate the talent landscape, create development plans to address future needs, and attract and retain highly skilled and engaged associates. - I will invest in associate development through career planning, ongoing feedback, mentorship, and participation in company-wide DevOps and innovation initiatives. - I will effectively communicate with associates at all levels, promoting the team's achievements and sharing regular project updates with senior leadership, addressing any roadblocks and recommending solutions to mitigate them. - I will develop meaningful relationships with customers, partners, and peers to achieve our shared goals, driving strategic initiatives courageously within the IT enterprise. - I will keep abreast of industry trends, recommending cutting-edge technologies to continuously enhance customer experience and expand the usage of Data & Analytics platforms and services across the organization.

The primary goal of the Sr. Technology Manager role is to collaborate with business areas to provide technology solutions and services that align with CarMax’s strategic mission. This leader will manage a talented team of engineers, driving CarMax's technology journey. I seek a results-oriented, data-driven individual with a successful track record of influencing outcomes without direct decision-making authority. Comfort in guiding teams and establishing performance standards while motivating associates is essential. I will work closely with my leader to identify high-performing talent, recognize gaps, and develop associates to meet these challenges. The role is based in Richmond, VA, at the Technology Innovation Center, with a hybrid work arrangement.
